Eco Educational Tour
This educational tour has been designed for teachers and students to collaborate on several protection and environmental projects in Mexico.
You will learn about the Mayan culture by visiting some of the archaeological sites on the Yucatan Peninsula. The projects include census, identification, theoretical and practical classes.
Study the biology, breeding and feeding habits, and much more of such creatures as the marine turtles and whale sharks.
Enjoy new experiences like hiking the beach at night to see the marine turtles laying eggs, visit a crocodile farm, kayak the wetlands, and journey to Isla Holbox to see indigenous birds like flamingos, herons, egrets, pelicans plus wild dolphins.
Let this once in a lifetime trip immerse you in nature while learning about the environment, biology and industries effect on nature.
You will visit: Chichen Itza, Grutas de Balancanche, Cenote Dzitnup, Puerto Morelos, Sian Ka'an Bio Reserve, and cenotes (natural sinkholes with crystal clear water).
The itinerary can be changed to suit your group's needs. Just let us know what you'd like to do.
Arrive in Cancun and drive to Puerto Morelos, a small coastal town, to check into the hotel. Dinner and orientation for the trip at the Hotel Ojo de Agua.
Snorkel the world's second largest barrier reef. Later hike in the botanical gardens where you will see indigenous animals like spider monkeys. Join a lecture on the reefs and jungle.
Bike to the Cenote Verde Lucero at la Ruta de los Cenotes near Puerto Morelos where you can try a zip line. In the afternoon join a lecture at the Anahuac University for a 2 hour discussion on sustainable tourism.
Drive to the Sian Ka´an Biosphere Reserve where you will learn about the projects, research, protection, and more. Snorkel in a cenote ( fresh water sinkhole). Camp at the reserve. Optional kayaking tour.
Kayak the wetlands of the reserve, bicycle to an underground river to snorkel, and camp again at Sian Ka'an.
Travel to Ek Balam to learn more about ecotourism and see the newly discovered ruins. Hear a lecture about ecotourism. Stay over in the community.
Travel to Rio Largartos to take a boat trip to see the famous flamingo reserve and many other bird species. Overnight in Valladolid.
Visit one of the new 7 Wonders of the World – Chichen Itza. Cool off swimming in Ik Kil cenote. Back to stay overnight in Puerto Morelos.
Return to the airport.
