Bicycling the Route of the Maya
Here is your chance to see the Yucatan Peninsula and Chiapas. For those who enjoy being active you can participate in activities like zip lining, snorkeling, rafting and hiking. Discover the natural cenotes, wildlife and the world's second largest coral reef. Learn more about Mexico's culture and archaeology.
Visit thatched-roofed villages built from ancient Mayan temple stones. Enter the jungle to see ruins in Mexico's second largest federal park – Sian Ka'an Biosphere Reserve. Study the architectural and
engineering skills of the ruins in Tulum, Coba, Chichen Itza, Ticul, San Cristóbal de Las Casas and Palenque.
Stay in local hotels and inns and avoid the tourist traps. Sample the local Yucatan cuisine including orange marinated pork baked in banana leaves, fresh octopus, chicken, and lime soup.
Experience the flora and fauna of Mexico as few will get a chance to do.

Pick-up at the Cancun International Airport. Check-in to the Q Bay (3 star hotel) or similar Cancun hotel. Attend the welcome meeting and dinner to receive your itinerary. Get your bike assigned. First night in Cancun.
Cancun – Isla Mujeres – Cancun (17.6 km cycling)
Ride your bicycle to Puerto Juarez to catch the ferry to the Island of Women – Isla Mujeres. Ride the bikes around the island, snorkel on the reef or do an optional scuba dive, return to Cancun by ferry and bike to hotel. Second night in Cancun.
Cancun – Valladolid (155 km)
Drive to Valladolid and check in at the hotel - Meson del
Marques. Free time to walk around the town where you can visit the cathedral, churches and
shop at Mercado de Artesanias for handicrafts. Try the pan cubano - a delicious sweet bread – that is famous in the area. First night in Valladolid.
Valladolid – Ek Balam - Valladolid (60 km cycling)
Bicycle to the colonial town of Ek Balam. Visit the archeological ruins of Ek Balam and continue to Dzitnup Cenote to zip line across and snorkel in the crystal clear waters! Great photo opportunities here. Take the van back to Valladolid. Second night in Valladolid.
Valladolid – Chichén Itza (59 km cycling)
Bicycle from Valladolid to check-in to a hotel near Chichén Itza. Visit the archeological site- voted one of the Seven Wonders of the World! First night in Chichén Itza.
Chichén Itza – Cantamayec – Ticul (50 km cycling)
Take a van transfer to Cantamayec village. Then take a bicycle ride to Ticul, home to a thriving pottery industry and cottage-industry shoe manufacturing. First night in Ticul.
Ticul – Palenque (540 km)
You will take a bus ride from Ticul to Palenque. Prepare for an 8 hour ride. First night in Palenque.
Palenque – Palenque archeological site - Palenque (16 km cycling)
Palenque means Place of
the Sun´s dead´. Take an early morning bicycle ride to the archeological site of Palenque to see
the ruins in the early morning rainforest mist. After visiting the ruins return by bicycle to Palenque
Second night in Palenque.
Palenque – San Cristóbal de Las Casas (195 km)
Van transfer from Palenque to San Cristóbal de Las Casas. On the way stop at the Cascadas de Agua Azul (Blue Water Waterfalls), located in the middle of the Chiapas rainforest. Then on to San Cristóbal de Las Casas. First night in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
San Cristóbal de Las Casas - Chiapa de Corzo - San Cristóbal de Las Casas (50 km cycling)
Bicycle to the colonial town of Chiapa de Corzo, situated between Tuxtla and San
Cristóbal. Take a boat tour to see the canyon ´Cañón del Sumidero´. You will see the canyon wall's highest point, caves and rock formations, plus the waterfall ''árbol de navidad '' (Christmas tree). Take the van back to San Cristobal. Second night in San Cristóbal de Las Casas.
San Cristóbal de Las Casas – Comitán (82 km cycling)
Cycling to Comitán, one of the prettiest towns in Mexico, located in the east-central part of Chiapas. First night in Comitán
Comitán– Chiflon Waterfalls - Comitán (50 km cycling)
Bicycle to the Chiflon Waterfalls, a chain of breathtaking waterfalls, originating from the San Vicente River. Van transfer back to Comitán. Second night in Comitán
Comitán – Montebello (50 km cycling)
Bicycle to Montebello. Visit the pine and oak forest along the Guatemalan border east of Chinkultic. The area is dotted with over 50 small lakes, known as the Lagos (or Lagunas) de Montebello. This is a peaceful and refreshing day. First night in Montebello.
Montebello – Ixcan (100 km)
Bicycle downhill to Ixcan through beautiful scenery and picturesque villages. First night in the jungle.
Ixcan – Río Lacanja – Palenque (400 km)
Van transfer to Palenque, stopping at the river of Lacanja. This area represents the biological richness of Mexico. It has 50 meters high trees, one hundred species of ferns,orchids and bromeliads. Raft through a sequence of waterfalls for approximately an hour. Then paddle for another hour to the archeological site of Lacanja. The ruins are a 15 minute walk from the edge of the river. Later the van continues to Palenque. First night in Palenque.
Palenque – Puerto Morelos (870 km)
Take a 12 hour van ride to Puerto Morelos. First night in Puerto Morelos.
Puerto Morelos - Free day!
This sleepy village is one of the best snorkeling reefs in the Riviera Maya.
This part of the reef is a National Marine Park and is famous for its marine life! The beaches in Puerto Morelos are not crowded. Second night in Puerto Morelos.
Puerto Morelos - Drive to the Airport to fly back home.
